Wine Stain Removal: Tips On How To Get Red Wine Stains Out of Your Carpet, Clothes and Furniture
Wine stain removal is something everyone should understand if they like wine. Wine is one of nature’s bounties, and many of us have a life long love affair with its taste and complexity. But perhaps the only down side of it is that it has a penchant for staining things. Wine stains on clothes, furniture and carpet are the greatest source of concern. This article shows you how to act fast to maximize the chance of wine stain removal.
So what happens if your spill red wine on your light-colored carpet, blouse or sofa? First, take a deep breath and do not panic. It is usually best to act immediately before the wine stain sets. There are a number of wine stain removal products on the market. You can find excellent ones on the Internet and at your local grocery or drugstore. Some products are special for carpets only, others for clothes. Make sure you purchase the right product and follow its directions carefully. Quality products include Dri Clean, Shout, Wine Away, Quick & Brite, Wine Away and Spot Shout.
Or you can make a wine stain removal agent at home. Just mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide with a liquid soap, and apply it to the wine stain. Be careful to dab the stain and do not wipe it in a way that will make it larger. Also, because peroxide is a bleaching agent, test it on a small part of whatever you are using it on first to make sure it does not take out the color. Obviously, if you are applying it to a white rug or blouse this will not be a concern. Make sure that you mix the liquid soap and the hydrogen peroxide together, i.e., don’t use one and then the other.
If you are removing a wine stain from an article of clothing, use the cleaning mixture described above as a pre-soaking agent and then carefully wash the item as you normally would. Also, if the red wine stain has not yet set, pour a little white wine on the stain. The white wine will help neutralize the red and will make the stain easier to remove. If the item of clothing is dry-clean only, do not attempt wine stain removal on your own. Just take it to your dry cleaner. When used on carpet, sometimes adding vinegar as a rinsing agent can make wine stain removal more effective.
Do not let your fear of red wine stains detract from your enjoyment of red wine. With these tips in mind, wine stain removal is a breeze.
